Back to School Prayers

The time has come. The school supplies are bought. The summer is officially over. Going back to school always brings so many mixed emotions to parents, students and teachers. There’s excitement, dread, worry and joy all mixed in there together. You’ve got parents who can’t wait to send their kids back to school, and then parents who a dreading dropping off their babies at kindergarten. I know my oldest who’s going into third grade is so excited to see all of his friends, but he’s already expressed his concerns multiple times about failing the state assessments at the end of the school year. But, no matter how we all feel about school starting, the time has come. Now our job as parents is to do all we can to ensure our kids have a successful school year, and one of the best ways to do this is to pray for our students. There are so many scriptures in the Bible that apply to praying for our kids at school, but below you will find six scriptures and prayers to go along with them. I hope this gives you a foundation to build upon as we all pray for this year.

Joshua 1:9 NLT

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Lord, I thank you for going with my child wherever he goes. Help him to be strong and courageous throughout this school year. Give him the confidence to be fearless about his academic success.

Philippians 4:6 NLT

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

I refuse to worry about this school year! I put my complete trust in the Lord, and I believe that my child will not be full of worry about this year either.

Proverbs 19:20 AMPC

Hear counsel, receive instruction, and accept correction, that you may be wise in the time to come.

Heavenly Father, I thank you, for the amazing teacher you have blessed my child with this year. Help him to receive instruction from his teacher and openly accept any correction needed. I am so grateful for all of the wisdom that my student will gain this year.

Romans 15:13 NLT

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Thank you, Lord, for filling my child with complete joy and peace throughout this school year. We put our hope in You for the best school year yet, full of joy, learning and success.

Proverbs 18:24 NKJV

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Father God let my student be a light on their campus who’s friendly to all and spreads Your joy. Help him to make the right friends who guide him down your perfect path for his life and who will stick closer than a brother.
